Using up milk

you can use milk instead of water when making a jelly
bread pudding doesn't necessarily use a lot of milk but bread and butter pudding will.
someone mentioned scones if the milk turns - Soda bread is a good use for this too.0 -
I've got the sort of rice that i have with curry, do i need special rice for rice pudding ?
well I use arborio rice or pudding rice for risottos or rice pudding but have never used basmati (which might be what you have?) but it looks like you can make a pudding with any type of rice - you might have to check recipes to see if there's a difference in cooking time http://allrecipes.com/recipes/desserts/custards-and-puddings/rice-pudding/0 -
When camping over 50 years ago, we used to keep milk fresh by boiling it, then keeping as cool as possible. It will form a skin that helps to protect it, which you can discard. That way I think it will keep a few extra days.0

That Soda bread sounds nice Chris, i've just been looking at recipies and they say buttermilk but one said ordinary milk with a spoon of lemon juice, so i've got that.
Some good ideas, thank you people. Looks like it wont go in the bin and i'll get fresh stuff in the morning which will last until the freezer comes.Liverpool is one of the wonders of Britain,

We've just eaten the blancmange, so reporting back.
It was a little lumpy. If I make it again, I'll pass it through a sieve. It was a little bland, but the recipe suggested serving it with jam, and that's what I did, so it was OK. I see no reason why different flavourings couldn't be added at the making stage.
It came out of the mould easily once I'd plunged it briefly in hot water. (I've just become the proud owner of an old-fashioned stoneware jelly mould, which had the recipe printed on the side, which is how I came to be making it in the first place!!).No longer a spouse, or trailing, but MSE won't allow me to change my username...0 -
For those advising to leave it outside, I notice the OP lives on Merseyside so maybe not an option
