Tues 23 Dec 2014 What small DFW stuff will you do today?

When we start out on the DFW trail we do loads of "big stuff" that makes quite a difference to our situation. These include having our lightbulb moment, cutting up the credit cards and cancelling Sky and the gym .

But once we have done the bigger stuff, we often feel that we are not making the same amount of progress, when in fact the small steps are helping us form good financial habits and helping us get closer everyday to staying in control and becoming debt free, or staying debt free.

Examples could be hanging washing out instead of using the tumble dryer or leaving your purse/wallet at home to avoid the risk of spending .

So be proud of those small steps, they really are important

  • Morning all.

Quiet start here. Am loving my clean kitchen. Hope to get in the Christmas mood today.

    Have a good day everyone.
  • Hi all!

Heading out to buy my turkey and ham later, already preordered at a certain weight as to cut down on waste!
Tidying my house - one big spruce up before Thursday
Looking through and cutting out the coupons in my coupon book for 2015
Have a good look through and see if I can get things to sell on my local fb page

That's my list for today, I'll be happy if I can get it all done!

  • Just visited about 10 websites checking out sales. Nothing bought. But feel like I have had a full day out in the shops. Should have put Christmas music on to get the full shopping experience! Off for a milky coffee, will pretend I am in one of those designer coffee places. May make myself queue whilst the microwave does its stuff....
  • Morning Marie, thanks for starting us off. I'm starting to get the festive feeling, now that I've got my food in. Although, I was dreaming about bread rolls as they are the only thing I have to get before the big day.

Quick list as I need to get off to work:
B and L from stores, tea will be out but this is planned.
Try and squeeze another hour extra time at work (almost made up enough time and would like to be done this week)
Need to get fuel for the car

Both me and DH are taking DD to a party centre to see Chris cringle and then we'll get tea out too. They do a short performance and then the children get a personalised gift, so it should be good. And, it has been paid for in advance, so won't feel the cost now.

    That's it for now - byeeeeeeee :)

    Morning all :)

    List for today:

    Check banks Done

Put breadmaker on Done - granary loaf today :)

Put a wash on and dry outside if possible Yes, it is almost dry as it was really windy today. Will finish off on the airer overnight :)

Visit sales unit for last time before Christmas, and take small thankyou gifts to the lovely ladies who run the shop. I have 2 pots of nice honey lip gloss that I bought during the summer, and never got round to opening or using, so I have put them in pretty gift bags and am avoiding additional spending by giving something nice that I already have. Done, a few items have sold :)

Pick up and pay for the Christmas Day meat from the butchers OH did this, and it was cheaper than I thought it would be :T

Total up receipts for December Grocery Challenge. Unfortunately I will be over my target by whatever the meat costs :( Still, onwards and upwards, I have already signed up for the January challenge :)Still need to do this, but at least it is a sitting down job!

Cleaning  Hoovered downstairs plus landing and bathroom

    Make more mince pies Done

Make more Christmas gingerbread Done but not iced them yet

    Right, better get on

    Good Day,
Joining in for the first time.
Today will be free entertainment day. we're planning a long walk in the woods with my son and our puppy to let them both expend some energy whilst the weather is clear.

Then my entertainment will come later on today with a very thorough to do list of cleaning, which I plan on doing some Buble's Christmas album playing loudly.

Entertaining us all, for free :)

    Morning All
Getting Organised thanks for your kind remarks on yesterday's thread. I think that's who I am really. Get bad news panic in a Sargent Jones of dad's army style, then get on with it. What else can you do? I'm glad you are managing to claw back some hours to make up for the sickness induced time off.

Guys before I waffle on I want to ask a question. Our thread. It's awesome. But I wonder if we could make it a rolling thread? Is there a reason we start it each day? As a relative newcomer of around 2 years on and off I am sure there is some history there. We have all benefitted from having the amazing Ziggy putting the thread up day in day out, & I for one am extreemly grateful to her. But maybe if we became a rolling small things thread we could all share responsibility? Thoughts?

On a less serious note. Found 21p already today on route to work (an old 20p & a penny) so a good start to the day.

Morning Maria, Dawn, Tata bubbly & CAFGIRL .

    Morning all,
A quick one from me as I've planned a baking day with some festive sounds playing so I can do some one-woman Christmas karaoke. Will be making mince pies using the cranberry & damson gin mincemeat I made the other week, & also lots of my mini sausage pies & an almond trifle sponge. Mr f is off to get some winter supplies for the car before our long drive down to London. He's had instructions to use cash from the Car Savings Piggy, not the last little bit left in our bank account till payday......Oh, hang on, pay day is early this month & it's today!!!! But as I always budget from 27th, I'll stick to that, as January is a long enough month already without us cannibalising funds 4 days early.
Am also hammering the heated airer to get clothes dry prior to packing & will need to do lots of ironing.
Talk to you all again after Christmas. Have a lovely time.....& remember that it isn't spending lots of money that makes the memories.

2026's challenges: 1) To rebuild our Emergency Fund to at least £5k.
    2) To read 50 books (12/50) 3) The Re-Shrinking of Foxgloves 8.1kg/30kg
Remember....if you have to put it on a credit card, extend your overdraft or take out a loan to buy whatever it is, you probably can't afford it, as that's not your money, it's somebody else's!
