Overpayment Student grant

Hi
I begin my course in April 2012 and get Student Loan, but decided to change School and course in September 2012.
Since then I study in my new school and I'm in progress. SLC give me a loads of headache when I apply for new loan in September 2012 as my student loan was suspended (there was big action of SLC - international student ban) and they ask me to send them proof of address what I did, but have to wait for decision 6 months! and only have it that time, because I wrote a letter to local MP, who send a letter and call them - 2 days later I have money on account!
Now SLC ask me for overpay student grant of £1647. They send me a lot of letters with always different amount but finally they asking for £1647. When I call them they ignore my questions how it is happened and my request to send me any explanation was also ignored. They told me that I have to pay - that's it. I couldn't pay it back as I don't have that money - I working only part time and grant and loan plus Tax Credit is my only income. I have 1 year old baby and my wife not working and I have still 1,5 years of study.
Now they send this debt to debt collectors and I don't know what to do.
Anyone can help me, please?
