I'm looking at properties around bury St Edmunds and see a few that tick the boxes for me for sale near Raf mildenhall. I was just wondering about the noise from the airport.

No, but I do live very, very near to RAF Lakenheath
Mildenhall has less air traffic, BUT the jets are noisy. They tend to fly mainly on a Tuesday and a Thursday, 3 abreast, with at least 12 jets flying over. I have lived here for nearly 3 years and have got used to it. Hardly hear them inside, BUT in the Summer, when outside, you cannot have a conversation when they are flying over. They are only allowed to fly between the hours of 8 and 10.30, weekdays only. They are not allowed to fly on Bank Holidays, Easter and the Christmas period, unless we are at war. Only time I can recall them flying on a Sunday was when Syria got all antsy
Bury, by the way, is lovely. Well I think so

I live in the Norfolk Broads and suffer from the awful noise of jets flying overhead from Lakenheath/Mildenhall on their way to and from the North Sea training areas.
I don't think you can get away from these anywhere in East Anglia. Been here just over a year and still find the noise intensly annoying. It is just so unpredictable. When its really peaceful and these jets fly over it just makes it seem worse. The people who have been here all their life look at me and say 'What noise'!
I guess it depends on your tolerance levels, if it is percieved it might be a problem then it probably will be.
Its one of the reasons I am seriously considering trying to sell in 2015!0 -
I've lived in Suffolk for over 20 years and I can't say I've had a big problem with plane noise.
I work in Woodbridge and I have noticed that my office seems to be under some kind of military flight route (often get large C130 style transports or even Apache helicopters) which is a little annoying but while its distracting it's still very infrequent.Nothing I say represents any past, present or future employer.0 -
I lived in Coltishall back when it had an air base. Grew to love the planes.0

I live in a village near RAF Coningsby, they fly mainly typhoons, but they also have the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight.
The jets fly Monday to Friday from early morning up until 5pm and sometimes to 11pm and they are low flying where we live.....we are just a couple of miles from the the runway.
You get used to them....inside you can barely hear them, outside, however, is a different matter, but we used to live on the Heathrow flightpath and nothing is as as noisy as concorde was.
The bonus is the BBMF, we see the Lancaster, Dakota, Hurricane and Spitfire quite regularly and they are amazing.
OH absolutely loves it. The noise isn't an issue for us.....though if you're on the phone in the garden it is.......0 -
I used to live 15 miles from there and when the thunderbolts used to fly u wouldnt hear them till in sight and then they was loud and they flew very low.... if the noise is going to be a problem dont buy/rent you would only then be a nimby if you buy and complain later... another way is stay there for a few days in holiday home or campsite its a nice place when quiet...0

I would wait until the long-term fate of the base is established.
Part of my local base, Coltishall, eventually became a prison for sex offenders.0
