I seem to have an issue with me having to log on to a few sites I regularly visit I.E not remembering my details. I did Antivirus scan, I have done a Malware scan and finally did a CCleanup.

I tried to system restore again and once again it failed even though I temporarily disabled my Anti Virus.

Everytime I log into Facebook I get this error sent to my email address
We detected a login into your account from a new device named "IE on Windows" on Sunday, 21 December 2014 at 21:19. This device has been added to your account. Operating System: Windows 7

Location: Scarborough, NYK, GB (IP=87.112.23.27) I AM NOT IN SCARBOROUGH!!

Anybody have any idea why I can't simply do a restore to a point of my choosing?

You may not be but where your ISP appears on the internet may be, Are you on PlusNet? That IP is assigned to them.

Assuming you've tried a few earlier dates and they all fail then what I'd do is turn off system restore which will delete the images then turn it on again. I'm not aware of any way to correct the problem and wouldn't trust it if there were. That won't let you get back to where you wanted to but may fix things up for the future. I've seen that problem a few times in the past myself for no apparent reason.

On the IP address front when you connect to your ISP you are allocated a public IP (the one the outside world sees when you contact their servers) from the ISP's pool of IP addresses. The only public information on that IP will relate to the organisation it was allocated to. That info is frequently incorrect too as organisations trade IP blocks and the tracking lags behind - more now as the IPv4 range is pretty much exhausted.

On your original problem it seems that you are probably clearing the cookies either on browser close (check settings) or with CCleaner. I don't use Facebook but do know that if I clear out cookies my bank insists on checking me out by sending a text message with a code I have to enter.
  • Have you tried doing a system restore in safe mode?

You don't mention what anti-virus you have but if you have Avast then this thread is worth a read
    Avast 2015 preventing system restore?

But in the post I linked to the user had tried that and also tried safe mode. Only by uninstalling Avast were they able to successfully restore.

Sorry I didn't read it. Good reason for not using Avast then.

I have used it in the past and I've also had issues with system restore - not sure if they were linked or not as I can't be sure the problems were at the time I had Avast installed.
