Having just moved into our house we cannot afford to change all the carpets just now. However with a concrete floor downstairs and carpets with no underlay I'd like to add some cushioning underneath as our children will be playing on the floors a lot.
Can anyone suggest some low cost underlay that will make our floors a bit softer?

I would suggest one of these two options ::
1) Second hand underlay, look on preloved, gumtree or freeads, there are usually some local ads offering used underlay and or carpets.
2) Burts Carpets, I have used this company for underlay and carpet gripper and found them to be very good and one of the cheapest available, with fast delivery.

Wool felt underlay is very cheap. £1-2 sq m fit it yourself.0

If the main reason is the kids, how about buying a large rug that they can sit on when they are playing?0
