Had a smart meter installed last week, installer stated that if i switch supplier the in house display and remote readings wont work, i thought this cant be right, the government are forcing the energy company's to spend billions of our money installing these meter's and they are not compatible with all the meter reading company's.

I decided to check with OVO and yes he was right !

What a complete waste of money , who the hell thought this was a good idea , didn't they think about people switching supplier :mad:

The same idiots who think HS2 & 3 are good ideas.

The same idiots who won't restrict immigration, causing housing shortages, NHS crises etc etc.

Do they ever think ANYTHING through, except maybe how to extract more tax to pay for their second homes and ridiculous expense claims?

Send your MP a Christmas e-mail. Politicians are being seduced into thinking that smart metering will save us all money. The analysis is flawed as the German Govt has just realised. The cost of roll-out is in excess of £11Bn or £220 per install which will be paid for by consumers in the form of higher bills.

PS just read that Capita has delayed the roll-out to late 2016 adding £90M to the roll-out costs. This madness needs to be stopped.

I agree it's stupid but is there a particular reason you want a smart meter?

By the time you want to switch to another supplier hopefully you will have worked out the best way to use energy in your house by using the smart meter :o

The remote reading appealed to me not inputting them every month , my mums was changed as well as she cant read the meter herself and i cant get to see her every month for readings , so while we are with OVO it will be ok, but if we change it wont work, i thought that was the idea behind it all.

Eventually they will do, but unfortunately at the minute not all suppliers are fitting smart meters.

The plan is to have three data centres North, Middle and South, each data centre will receive the meter readings from their respective areas. At this point meters will be able to communicate with all suppliers.

Also if your smart meter fails, you may have some issues getting it sorted out/swapped. Smart meters also have valves inside which sometimes randomly close.
Feudal Britain needs land reform. 70% of the land is "owned" by 1 % of the population and at least 50% is unregistered (inherited by landed gentry). Thats why your slave box costs so much..

Also the same idiot(s) (Prescott) who decided that in order to reduce CO emissions, only A rated condensing boilers could now be fitted in domestic properties thus leaving people with expensive new boilers that only last 10 to 15 years cost a fortune to maintain and run and dont really save that much in terms of energy.

So these A rated condensing boilers cost more to run than the older type boiler,? thats bad news.

They cost less to run in terms of energy costs but more to keep them running because there's more to go wrong, they don't last as long and the parts are expensive.
There are always unintended or unforseen consequences when the politicians start interfering.
