I'm hoping this will be easy.

My ma-in-law, has a BT land line. For ages now she has used Dial-around to call Spain at 1p per minute (against BT's 22p).

She said "wouldn't it be great if I could supply her with another prefix for UK land line calls". I've kept quiet about 18866/1899/18185 which it seems DO give free calls, because she is not on-line.

I don't suppose there is anyway round that other than me registering on her behalf. Is that possible?, would it effect me at all? would I incur any costs/problems etc?. I'm reluctant to get involved if it will lead to issues I can't be bothered with. Maybe some kind soul would enlighten me.

Register in her name and address so that she is responsible for the account; her credit card so she pays for the calls; and your email address so they mail the statements to you. You can then print them out for her.

But what exactly would be chargeable. Currently on her BT bill, she sees the Dialaround number and that is paid for via BT. So if calls made to other UK landlines via 1899 are free, where do costs occur?

They're not quite free - they are 0p per minute with a connection fee. From their rates page:

"1899 calls are subject to a 4p connection fee, calls within the UK via 1899 are subjected to a 5p connection fee"

Ah, that's the bit I missed. But, is that payable via the BT invoice which she would continue to do?.

No, they email you a separate bill - which can also be checked online.

It can be paid by credit/debit card (inc Amex and Diners), direct debit or bank transfer

Does she want to just recieve a BT Bill and not open any other accounts,or cps her calls. Assuming that she is on BT Option 1.

At peak rate she could use 05pence access number 0844 202 0505 . Calls to UK 01/02 Geographical Numbers via BT 6p connection, and half a pence a minute. Instead of BT,s 6p connection and 3.25p a minute from 1/8/2007.

At Evening and Weekends she can dial direct from BT from 1/8/2007 at 4.5p a call to 01/02 numbers up to 60 minutes. Cheaper then 18185.

www.dialwise.co.uk sister company of dialaround now offer calls to Spain at half a pence a minute on 0844 200 1515.

If she is happy to open accounts etc read this post.

Slowly with patience from you, we are getting somewhere.

As she is almost 80, she is reluctant to make changes. So yes, you are right, she dose not want to open any other accounts.

Whichever provider she uses, she wants their charge/s to appear within her BT (option 1) bill, as her Dialaround 1p calls to Spain do. Mind you, if I inform her about Dialwise at 1/2p, I bet she will use that.

To be honest, I think she might be frightened off by 5p connection charge, yet would willingly talk for ages and take the cost well over that. BUT, if that were to prove me wrong, I take it this could be done with no seperate account?

If you have an account with 1899/18185 you can add her number to your account and it would be billed to you but all calls under her number show separately, with a total and then both totals are added together to produce the final bill.
You could then ask her for the money monthly or however often the bill comes in.

My home phone is registered on 18185 at the office so any business calls I need to make I can do through 18185 and are billed to the office.
