Wait for PS4 slim?

Options
I am thinking about buying a PS4. I see threads like this: http://www.ign.com/boards/threads/is-anyone-gonna-wait-for-the-slim-ps4.453835011/, however they are all dated 2013 or early 2014.

Is it worth waiting for a PS4 slim? Some people speculate that it will be available next Xmas or early 2016.

i'd definitely wait for the slim
Live each day like its your last because one day you'll be right
  • Depends If you need a ps4 ie if you have a ps3 then most games released in the next 12 months will be on ps3 and ps4 but some like Uncharted 4 and Until Dawn and The order 1886 are only ps4

    I have a PS2.
  • The PS3 slim took almost 3 yrs to come along, and the PS2 slim took 4. Whether you wait or not depends on if you want to play the games that are solely new-gen (or whose last-gen versions are poor). I have a PS3, and have a backlog of games to play. Apart from Uncharted 4 I'm good for now but will upgrade sometime in the summer maybe. The current PS4 isn't huge or unreliable, if I didn't have a PS3 and games to play on my shelf I'd get one now.

A year is a long time to wait. I've a PS3 slim just now and the PS4 is already smaller than that.

I guess it depends how much you want a PS4. You might wait another year and still no sign of a slim.

  • Well if you have a ps2 it was released in March 2000 and ps3 released March 2007 (in Europe) and depends what you want it for ie playing online or playing offline single player and theres 800 games for the ps3 and you will need an hdmi cable for best graphics, and hdmi slot on the TV

I don't think it's worth specifically waiting for a slim version of the console, as mentioned above it's a fairly neat console already but I would wait until it gains a larger games library if there's not anything you're specifically wanting at the moment.

i dont know about waiting for a ps4 slim but certainly wait for a ps4 with a bigger hard drive. a large percentage of those who buy the current 500gb will see their hard drives fill up over the next year i am sure. this is because ps4 games need a massive amount of space on the hard drive. for example last years call of duty needs 49gb.

Anecdotally (sorry!) I've seen a lot of people return their PS4s to Sony because they're so noisy. And a few people get the exact same PS4s back, no change in noise, and have to return them again!

And yet it seems quite hit-and-miss, as a few people seem to get near-silent PS4s out of the box.

So there's definitely room for improvement in there somewhere. In fact, a larger PS4 "Slim" might be a big improvement.

  • A lot of people were mucho paranoid about the noise though, especially coming from previous gen.

Noise is subjective as well. It also depends where you keep your PS4, if it's well ventilated the console won't get as hot and the fans won't run as high. The games you play can have an effect, Killzone Shadow Fall, for instance, made launch consoles sound like the were going to take off.

Anyway, I wouldn't wait for a PS4 slim, the PS4 is pretty slim as it is. If you want a slim when it comes out then just trade in your PS4 for one.
