Someone I know sold me a pc processor they had finished with. I had to buy a monitor and keyboard and it was going ok for a year. Then the person asked me if they could swap the soundcard I think it was as they are into gaming and they said that the one I had was not necessary for my use but would be very useful for him. So he came to exchange it and found that something had happened to it, and it was blackened, and other parts too. The person thought that it had been a power surge that caused the blow out.
I remember the trip switch went a while back and I could not find out why. Anyway this person has said that he does not know how the computer is still working as the power supply, CPU, and another part could be damaged. He suggests that I buy a laptop he has. So I am wondering if this sounds okay to others who are savvy and whether they think that I should just replace parts? Thanks.

So, it's still working ok, but now this 'friend' wants to sell you his used laptop???
 Is that right??
Have you ever heard the expression 'Ain't broke, don't fix it'???????0

He says that my computer could go at any time and he is moving away so will not be able to come to sort it out for me but if I have a laptop I can post it for work needing done. He has always kept his word on putting things right. There doesn't seem to be any problems as far as I know. It sounds like you think he is not exactly to be trusted?0

            Do you doubt his honesty?
Did you check the motherboard/soundcard yourself to see the clear signs of burnout?
I suppose what he is saying can happen but I would normally expect the PC to be showing signs such as faults/restarts.0

How much did you pay for the PC?
What price has he proposed for the laptop?0

I saw it and it was blackened and other parts were also black. It had been a genuine blow out. . He did say that he cannot believe it is still working as there are no faults/restarts. I just wonder if replacing the parts would be cheaper until I can afford a laptop.0

I paid £100 and a price for the laptop which has some pixles missing but he says I can connect my monitor, has not yet been declared.0

Well if its not broken, dont just throw money at it, that you would otherwise be using to save for a new laptop.
Edit: In the meantime just dont leave the PC on overnight or unattended lol0

A laptop that needs a new screen is only worth scrap money e.g £10 for a low spec model, increasing depending on the spec.0

            Hi
This may give some indication as to a refurbished laptop cost, and then a used laptop would be quite a bit less I expect.
http://www.getonlineathome.org/Laptop Prices start from £169 for all other purchasers.
NB: All laptop computers are professionally refurbished by Microsoft partners.
