Windows 7 PC - how to monitor broadband usage?

I am on a limited tariff (Plusnet) and my daily usage suddenly jumped from ~1Gb to 6Gb (yesterday) and 7Gb today.
Are there any built-in tools to monitor the usage? Are there any free and trustworthy programs available?
I tried Speccy that I had installed on my PCs.
On my PC with dozens of tabs opened in two browsers it shows normally 0kbps for Network >> Link Speed.
However on my wife's PC with all programs (except Speccy) closed it constantly shows figures from kbps to Mbpc.
Any advice?
So far I started Avira > Scan system

Try Netlimiter or Networx.
Both log data used and which program is using it all.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -
Wife's PC , smart phones , tablets, and smart TV's all use the download limit, measuring your PC will be meaningless in isolation.0

very true evert device will need its own log. If nobody uses wifi turn it off.
Anyone downloading games on their phones? I downloaded a few and 600mb to 1gb+ is not unknown.
And it doesnt end there, so many updates can easily add another couple of hundred mb.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -

Hi
What is going thru the firewall?
I have quite a lot on ASK and a few on BLOCK.
Perhaps you could try ... https://www.grc.com and see if you have any open ports that could be upping your usage.
Your system has achieved a perfect "TruStealth" rating. Not a single packet — solicited or otherwise — was received from your system as a result of our security probing tests. Your system ignored and refused to reply to repeated Pings (ICMP Echo Requests). From the standpoint of the passing probes of any hacker, this machine does not exist on the Internet. Some questionable personal security systems expose their users by attempting to "counter-probe the prober", thus revealing themselves. But your system wisely remained silent in every way. Very nice. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0
