In which case it should have a 7 year warranty.
  • We got British Gas in after the local repair man broke the part he was supposed to be fixing then completely lied about what he had done. And left us with no heat or hot water for 3 days, instead just kept vanishing saying he'd be "back tomorrow" and not answering his phone when we called to ask what time he's be back.

We got BG to do a one off repair (the part the local muppet broke) for £99 (the local muppet charged us £230) and then took their Homecare cover. We've had to call them out 3 times so far due to issue the local muppet left us with, like not fitting the solenoid back onto the gas valve correctly, which resulted in lukewarm water.

Honestly, local gas safe repair men aren't necessarily the best option. British Gas have been faultless in fixing our boiler and I would recommend them to anyone.

    Cashback Cashier
I am presently with Npower and due for renewal on 7 January. I went to them last year to get £80 Cashback from Quidco, having been with British Gas Home Care for two years following them installing my Worcester Boiler. The boiler has just been serviced and I am looking to change having been quoted £19 per month to renew. BG Homecare 200 is advertised on the website as £11.50 per month and there is currently a £40 Cashback on Quidco, so I am thinking of going with them. Does anyone have any thoughts?

The boiler was fitted via British Gas's boiler replacement scheme. So I assume the warranty is only 12 months so they can then make some cash back via homecare. Will call vaillant on Monday and check warranty length.

I have home emergency cover. But I hate claiming on the house insurance Unless I absolutely have to because the premiums then Sky rocket.

With my insurer (E-Sure) using the home emergency cover isnt the same as claiming on the home insurance policy itself

I agree with this. There is no effect on your insurance premium if you claim on the home emergency cover.

It's a vaillant Eco tech pro 24. Fitted exactly a year ago today.

2 yrs as standard, 5 yrs if BG are Advanced Installers

  • I used NPower. Their service technician was competent and pleasant. But there are problems:

[1] visits (including service visits) are whole day appointments (whole day off work)

[2] first visits are exploratory only. Return visit is another whole day appointment (whole day off work)

[3] my repair was a bodge job on the motorised valves. Tops only changed to avoid replacements and drain down. In the end had to employ a real plumber --- £390 --- to do the job correctly.

The real cost at over £30 a month for NPower, £390 for plumber and two days off work is huge.

I prefer now to engage a plumber directly and dictate my own terms.

Called vaillant. It's one year and a free second year if you pay them to service the boiler at £110. So not really worth it as insurance is only £11.50 a month with BG and service is free.

Called my home insurance (legal and general). Using the emergency cover completely wiped out my 5+ years no claims according to the CS rep I spoke to. So again, not worth losing that and having premiums sky rocket.

You will only read bad stories about BG and rarely the good. There really is only a certain level of cheapness that you can go to before there is a dramatic fall in service, skills and backup. Think about that. Modern boilers can be very expensive to repair.
Feudal Britain needs land reform. 70% of the land is "owned" by 1 % of the population and at least 50% is unregistered (inherited by landed gentry). Thats why your slave box costs so much..
