MET car park fine

Options
Hi, I have today received a fine stating I had overstayed my welcome at pure gym sheffield.. You get 2.5 hours free but I was 30 minutes over the time limit.
It is £100 but £60 if payed within 14 days. I've tried my best to research and some people have said you don't need to pay these because it's not worth the company taking you to court etc...but they were old threads so I'm wondering if this is still the case and if anyone has recently 'ignored' one of these fines and got away with it...

Thanks in advance

its not a fine (its an invoice) , and for england and wales the law changed over 2 years ago, in oct 2012 , so some people have been taken to court, and lost too (as well as some winning)

so please read and follow the NEWBIES sticky thread near the top of this forum, and appeal

also complain to the landowner for cancellation asap
  • Hi, thanks for the reply, I did look at the newbie thread but just didn't understand it. I am not sure what chance I have to appeal as I knew the time limit but just lost track if time, do I just send the template letter then?

if this was a postal PCN, send the template letter, amended as required , with free proof of posting at the PO, or online or by email if they accept those instead (keep copies and dates etc)

if its a windscreen ticket, wait for the NTK in the post , then do the above
  • It's a postal one does it make a difference if they are a member if the BPA or any other body! And from experience do you know if it is worth appealing to MET

the BPA site has a list of their members, and the IPC site has a list of their members

you should always appeal, and this forum has hundreds or thousands of threads about appeals to all of these companies, including MET

usually these companies turn down any appeals, but then popla tends to rule in our favour when you use forum help

complaining to the landowner also produces good results a lot of the time

if you dont appeal, you lose the chance and can be chased and possibly taken to court for the next 6 years
  • Great, I've noticed on the letter they sent me that the first photo of me entering the car park shows my number plate but upon exit it's dark and you cannot see the registration plate, does this mean I am likely to have a successful appeal?

thats the trouble with anpr, its difficult due to them altering the photos to enhance the reg number

its certainly one appeal point, but the other ones like no contract, poor signage and not a gpeol are better ones, so you hit them with all that at popla, if they are in the BPA still

MET wont cancel on that point you raised, so send the template letter and then research your popla appeal (all dealt with in that newbies thread)

ignore any other threads that are older than say 6 months
  • Ok thanks for the advice I will do that!

not sure why you have ignored the obvious, the complaint to the landowner

if they cancel, doesnt matter what MET do (and many other gyms have done so this year alone as reported several times on here)

go to the source, but appeal to MET anyway , promptly
