Royal mail strikes missing item

Hi,

I sold an item on ebay and sent it to the buyer at 11:30am on 26th July.

He still has not received it even though it was Special Delivery Next Day, should have got there by 1pm on the 27th.

The tracking says that the parcel has been delivered within the guaranteed time ( 28th July ) but that isn't next day and he hasn't received it!

Once he hopefully receives the parcel am I in my rights to reclaim the postage costs £19.45 or is this one of the days that Royal Mail are removing the ability for customers to get a refund on?

I just hope it turns up now and am glad the item has insurance!

The guarantee was suspended for today, but can't find any information for the 27th.

Have you called them to ask?

Not called them yet.

I assume it will be now delivered monday, if no sign of it by then I shall ring them.

If it tracks as delivered then it has been delivered. Either someone else has signed for it or the receiver has forgotten it has arrived.

Special was suspended for some time during the strike, if you check over on the ebay forum the details are on there somewhere, so no they will not pay compensation in this instance.

Edited just to add that special delivery shows the signature online about 48 hours after delivery is shown so you can get an idea who exactly signed for it.

I would check it doesnt arrive tomorrow (monday) for some reason and then speak to Royal Mail and check the online tracking to see what they say. May also be worth the buyer contacting his local sorting office to check if it is waiting there?

Im waiting for my new bankcard and pin to be delivered for my new account.
Called the bank to say i had not recieved it and confirming when it will be sent. It wassent on monday (23rd) but was told it was down to the postal service to deliver it now

In the original post it says that the item has been delivered, so I am assuming that this is what the tracking says, but the receiver is disputing it.

Oops, I must have skimmed past that, sometimes though could it show as being delivered even if it hasnt? Just a thought if theres a postman who doesnt feel like delivering it

Also it will say where it was delivered from - is this place the area of where the parcel was meant to be delivered?

Special goes out seperately from the main post so once it tracks as delivered Royal mail will consider it delivered. If it shows as delivered but receiver claims not to have it then things get nasty, your final paragraph is absolutely the way to go, make sure that the sorting office that took the sig looks right and if not raising an immediate dispute with the RM. If the sorting office does look right then the dispute is between the sender and the receiver, which is where the signature plays a part.

They received the parcel today at 10:10am, royal mail website now says that the parcel was delivered today (30th) not the 28th :rolleyes:

I sense something underhand going on at royal mail to try and reduce peoples claims!

When they signed for it there was no date/time on the delivery form either so the receiver filled in the blank spaces, should help as evidence for any refund.

I am now going to chase up that refund! Have to fill in a claim form, can I charge them for my administrative costs?
