PS2 not reading games - help?!

webbie
webbie Posts: 383 Forumite
Our PS2 now no longer reads games/discs - it begain only loading a game when it felt like it - now it will not load any at all.

I do not think it is scratched discs - does anyone think there is something that needs cleaning - and can I do it - (note we are not a techie family!) - or is that game over for us?
Any help much appreciated.
Many thanks

You can try the ususal dvd or cd cleaner. I normally take ours outside and blow the C**p out of it through the vents. If its the laser, and it might be you can get them replaced. Ours has been done and if I remember correctly it was about £40
:confused:I have nothing better to do!!!!
  • Happend to me. Has it stopped playing dvd's as well? I was told it was a laser issue, especially if its the 1st model (the larger size), I was also told Sony were 'told off' for putting cheap disc readers in the console.
Figured rather than spend on a new disc drive for something else to go pop later I splashed out on a new one.

Hi - yes it is the larger one. Thing is - my kids use it so rarely - just for singstar and dance mats, that it's not worth buying a new one - I just want to give it a go getting this one going!! Might unplug and "blow the c**p" as previously suggested!! many thanks

  • If desperate you can always pick up a cheap 2nd hand one. Was looking at cheap bundles in a local independant game shop.

if you can get the cover off of it,i had the same problem,i got a cotton bud dipped it in a little surgical spirit, and cleaned the laser lens, put it all back together and worked a treat,as its so old your not going to invalidate your waranty so give it a go...remember to unplug it first

Or you can pick up a nice slimline one for around £60 preowned with a 12 month garantee from gamestation or game
