iPod - album not playing in correct order. Why?

I know it's not an iPhone but i had a look where to put this & couldn't find anywhere.

I put an album on my iPod. For some reason track 9 is first, then track 1, then 2 & then it runs in order like that i think. Track 9 is also the same title as the album if that matters.

So i go in to iTunes with my iPod plugged in & edit the track order as if i remember right, it never said track x-of-x. Then i hit sync.

In my iTunes library it's fixed, but not on my iPod (& yes i changed the order on my iPod too).

Do i need to remove the album or something? I've never had this issue in the past though when i've had to do this.

Sounds like it may be set to shuffle mode somehow. I've seen this with MP3 players but never felt the urge to splash out on an iPod so don't know if that is possible. There's usually an icon looking a bit like a wiggly X to set them shuffling. Trying to listen to an audiobook in that mode while drunk is an experience I don't want to repeat.

Shuffle wouldn't change the listing order or play just one track out of sequence, so can't see it being that.

I thought the purpose of this forum is to help each other.

OP, I don't have an iPod but I tried to change the track order. I couldn't change it. I believe you can only change the track order of a playlist. You could call Apple Support or chat with Apple Support and see what they say.

it may be how the track information is encoded in the tracks properties.

Have a look at the metadata in your MP3 files. There is a "track number field" which MP3 players use to determine the order of play. I use mp3tag for the purpose.
  • Thanks Handsome & Linton.

I can change the track order within iTunes. Just highlight the tracks, select get info & change them to be in order .... "track x of x" & do that individually.

Never thought of the metadata thing as i thought the method i just mentioned worked with iPods. I'll have a look at that later :)
