Transferring debits when switching supplier

Options
Hello,

Any help will be gratefully received...

I've recently switched Energy Supplier and I've just had a bill from the old supplier saying i owe them £166. Should/can the debit have transferred to my new supplier??

Thanks,

  • You owe the old supplier money and have to pay it.

If you have a prepayment meter you can sometimes transfer debt to the new supplier.

If you have a normal meter, you will have to pay the debt off after the transfer.
  • Really?? I wouldn't of bothered switching if I'd known this!!!! Thanks for your reply

They are two different companies with no relation other than sharing an industry. Why would one allow money owed to them be collected by a second company?
