I'm stuck were to post this one so hopefully it's ok here.
I am interested in donating to Sponsor a girl... does anyone have any experience this charity?
I want to make sure any donation I make will definitely be used to make a difference and not be tied up in admin costs.

Chances are it will be tied up in admin costs.
Between 10% and 65% can sometimes get tied up.
Unfortunately even cash donations in pots get a small degree of admin.0 -
Do you know the actual name of the charity or registered charity number?
As far as I can see a search on the charities commission website shows no UK charity registered with that name, and a google search brings up lots of charities with pages entitled sponsor a girl.A smile enriches those who receive without making poorer those who giveor "It costs nowt to be nice"0 -
If you donate to a reputable charity and make it clear that the money is for a project not for the general, unrestricted funds they should respect your wishes.Who having known the diamond will concern himself with glass?

I certainly will try that, I not ignorant to the charities running costs but I would like to know more money is going to the cause than getting tied up logistics.0 -
I've always thought of Plan as a fairly well respected charity.
Looking at their latest figures on the charity commission website http://apps.charitycommission.gov.uk/Showcharity/RegisterOfCharities/CharityWithPartB.aspx?RegisteredCharityNumber=276035&SubsidiaryNumber=0
just under 85% of their spending is directly on charitable activities. Which is certainly a lot better than some large charities manage.A smile enriches those who receive without making poorer those who giveor "It costs nowt to be nice"0 -

Thank you for that it's very helpful... 85% is actually quite impressive, I'm going to get myself signed up and hopefully my donation will make a difference.0 -
I sponsor a girl through plan, I find it very rewarding and 85% seems fair to me.
I mainly did it to a) give to charity (which is one of my 2015 resolutions but I started early) but also b) teach my children how other, less fortunate, children live and hopefully teach them some empathy£1k emergency fund (#33) £140/£1000 10.4%
DFBXmas 2015 (#033) £3,328.76/£49,404 6.7%
Sealed Pot Challenger #474 £16.27/£100 target0 -

I know there are people/children in need home and away but something just stood out with this charity ... looking forward to getting more involved now..I have some reassuring information today so I feel confident. I have 4 other charities I have donated too for ten years and thought it was time for a new addition.. going to be my last one though.0
