Aqua Advanced/Reward Card and credit file

I had a good credit history, ran into a small problem of obtaining a CCJ for costs in late 2012. While this doesn't in itself bother me because the court ordered it to be paid at a level that was affordable, because the Defendant attempted to do something and enforce it the costs order appeared as a CCJ (nothing can be done to remove it and it will drop off after 6 years anyway).

So that aside I know obtaining any form of credit is difficult and usually results in an automatic rejection.

Nevertheless I currently have a Nationwide credit card among others, I use this one primarily for spend abroad, but have been spending more abroad than usual and the amount of allowance has decreased significantly.

I have been looking at alternatives and found on here that the much easier to obtain Aqua card might be a viable option.

My question - if I apply (and get) the Aqua card how does this reflect on my credit file? I know other lenders such as Nationwide et. al. will see this, do they have a negative view on having an Aqua card? Or does it not really matter?

Comments

  • They won't see who the card is issued by.
  • but will they not see the APR etc? and will this not impact on any action they may take or am i speculating to much?
  • No. They'll see a card with a limit and a balance.

They could, if they, wanted, assume it's a sub prime card from the limit, but its very unlikely to make any difference. What matters is the way you manage the card.
  • Thanks - lets see if they give me one then

What do you mean by this? have Nationwide decreased your limit? or are you carrying a balance and are near to your limit??.

Why not look at the Capital One Classic Extra Card too? - WIll you be paying off the balance each month or carrying a balance?
  • No I pay my cards off every month. Nationwide give you credit for every £5 you spend you get £1 credit to use against foreign transactions, so I had around £2500 credit to use against foreign transactions, if you then spend the equivalent of £2500 in foreign transactions you do not incur any foreign transaction fees.

After using this allowance you will pay whatever the fee is, 2% etc

So basically you spend on their card, get the points, pay off the card to then spending on their card again in another country free of charge? They must be rubbing their hands together.

Anywho, Either way, Aqua or Capital One will both give you small limit, £400 if you're lucky. Aqua are quicker to give increases but their online system is rubbish, Capital One online system is good but they only give increases every blue moon. Plus, They will charge for overseas spending.
  • Yes, it's annoying - they have even given a calculator to demonstrate here

I don't really care about the limit too much it's only for incidental purchases etc when abroad. I have enough plastic to contend with and use elsewhere, I just didn't want having one of these poor credit cards to affect the others I have for the moment until that CCJ disappears.
