O/S Daily Friday 19th December 2014

This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” is fine

    Morning everyone

Birthday wishes to those celebrating a birthday, hope you have a great day x

Hugs and get well wishes to those that want/need them.

DH up and gone to work stupid early. DS1 now getting ready for work.

Dinner last night was chicken chasseur, mash, carrots and broccoli, was delish, clean plates all round. Tonight I’m not sure what we will be eating but I’m doing a food shop this morning, so I’ll be able to find something.

Was very productive yesterday, I managed to go over to the next town and more or less finished off the xmas prezzie shopping. Came home and did the remaining washing, drying and ironing, got the housework done, then sat and wrapped all the prezzies – as I’m taking some to my friend’s today. I’ll be taking another 2 lots to my sister’s at some point over the weekend, as they are going to visit my other sister for Christmas and are leaving early next week – at least that means most of the prezzie’s will be gone from my house! Also stripped our bed and remade, bedding in the WM as we speak.

So today’s plans are visiting the bank, food shopping, go to friend’s to take prezzies, come home take DS2 up to town to get a passport photograph taken, so we can get his passport renewed, if I can get everything done today I’ll either take the passport application up to PO today or go first thing tomorrow morning.

So another busy day – I also do need to ice my xmas cake and clean the oven, hoping I may get both these jobs done either today or get the oven cleaner on the oven tonight ready to wash off in the morning. Just really hoping my back doesn’t ache as much tonight as it did yesterday! Just didn’t stop but now feeling that I’m not so far behind with the preparations.

    Have great Fridays’ everyone x

    Take care x

    Keep safe and well x

Last day at work today, students leave at 12, staff buffet starts at 12.30, teaching & support staff leave between 1 & 2.30. Admin leave when their work is finished, this used to be around 6ish, but our team leader now gets things done quicker & we leave just after everyone else. Hubby finishes between 9.30 & 10 tonight. Next week he's working 7.30 'til 4.
TTFM, Molly, Elona, Hilly, LW, MMarie, BBird, thinking of you all.
Tru, your carols/songs cheer me up everyday.
    It's time I made a move.
    Have a good day everyone.
    Hugs Hester.
    Chin up, Titus out.

    Morning everyone.

Not peeked out yet, am still under the duvet. Will be getting up shortly and heading home but need to stop off briefly to pick up some shopping. Not quite finished for the holidays yet, got to work ?Monday and Tuesday and then off until 05 Jan.

So, not sure how my day will pan out. The small amount of Christmas shopping I do is done! Just got to get something for OH, he's so difficult to buy for.

No doubt our evening meal will involved a Chinese takeaway though OH prefers Indian. Luckily the shops are right next to each other.

Hope everyone has a good day, not too Christmas stress.

    Morning all,

This lurgy is certainly hanging on, I feel worse than ever this morning but Ive been very kind and shared it with OH :D I just hope mum doesn’t get it, it would really wipe her out.

Off to work today I have ordered my turkey through the butcher at work which will arrive today so I need to stop and get some cash out on the way £30 for 3kg roll not bad I thought and there will be lots of leftovers :T

Dinner tonight will be Jacket spuds with ham pate and salad, I will take the spuds to work and cook them in their oven as mum cant light the oven here and they would take too long to cook once I get in tonight.

Got to get some stamps tomorrow and post the last cards, and mum is moving to my sisters for a while tomorrow apart from that I intend to have a quiet weekend and try and get over the lurgy !

    Have good days all xx

    Morning,
well a damp start here but im hoping its going to dry up I'd like to take a walk into town for a change(about 2 miles) blow the cobwebs away, didn't have a good night, hubby was up for 2 hours, finally went back to sleep around 4 ish, then up again at 6, I gotta get up early otherwise my routine is blown for the day!, done a little more shopping on amazon thank god for internet shopping , sorted lounge out yesterday ready for family coming xmas day, (should not have put chocs out yet,,,,,, BAD idea, someone's eaten half already lol,,,) we have a little grandson so he,s gonna need room for his trucks etc., im looking forward to it now, im thinking of getting a ready cooked chicken for our tea, hubby hasn't eaten a lot in the last few days so maybe the smell will entice him. Bed change in a while, clean the bedroom, put wash on and try my new tumble out, hoping its not going to take a lot of electric!. off to make another brew now before the day starts, have a good day everyone, xx

    Morning All

School closes at 2.30, woohoo! It is so dark outside, and wet but I don't care.

Second coat went on the bedroom walls yesterday - battleship grey which sounds horrid but when the fitted wardrobes are in (white) I think it will look ok. I like it anyway!

Need to go for a shower and off to work, have to be on the stage today for class assembly which isn't good, it will be really busy as it's the last of the year.

Hope you all have a good day, TTFTM really missing your posts, hope you are ok. Thinking of all those not feeling too good. Hugs to all. Take care. XX

Morning all! I have some cooking to do today: profiteroles for a dinner party on Sunday, marzipan the cake, turkey burgers for dinner, a few other bits. Then wash the floors, a couple of last things to wrap and sort out my music for concert tomorrow. DS13 will be home from school around 12.45, DS16 will be later as he is volunteering at the library this afternoon. Grocery order being delivered between 2 and 4pm.

Looking forward to the weekend, I have the day off tomorrow, carol concert in the afternoon. My brother and his family are coming to watch, as well as DH's parents and my DH and boys. Then we are all going out for a meal. We have friends coming over for a walk and dinner on Sunday, will be nice to catch up with them.
  • My favourite carol Tru, always used as the last one when we got to Midnight Mass for communion on Christmas Eve.Its a tiny church near to where my DD lives and the pianist bless her has the ability of Les Dawson to play just slightly out of tune which I don't think is meant, but causes great hilarity at times. We all drown her out with the last carol and almost raise the roof.

One year my DGS Danny persuaded his sunday football team to come and the place was fully of noisy young men singing at the tops of their voices. Its one of the lovely things that we have gone to since losing my late OH 11 years ago and Danny then 13 said it was his way of saying Happy Christmas to his Granddad. We have kept up the tradition every year although this year Danny will be in New York over Christmas so the rest of us have promised to sing even louder :):):)
Today is my youngest DDs birthday and although a big grown-up with a husband and five children of her own, she is still my little'un even at 45 :):):) So if your reading this Tessie Happy Birthday honey and I'll see you when you get home from work and I'll be bearing pressies :):):)

Well the sun is out, and so in the tubs in the garden some of my hyacinth bulbs are coming up. Far too early so I am hoping they don't get the frost
general pottering this morning then History club this afternoon then off to Dds afterwards.
Hope you all have a lovely day and you are all warm and dry
    Cheers chums

Finally wrote my cards out :j

Taking DD into York and posting them there then treating ourselves to the cinema and maybe lunch.

DD came over yesterday to put up the (real) tree and put lights on it so made her a salad for today and peppered pork for evening meal which she enjoyed.

DH has had follow up visit at hospital and is healing nicely :j with MRI scan TBA in February so fingers crossed. May need to start wrapping presents tonight and tomorrow as once all DDs are home and new son in law will be chained to stove ;)

Just got letter saying I won on the premium bonds :j

Only £25 so less :j but let's hope it is a good omen.
Hugs to all who could use one and have a lovely Christmas.
