Largest Retail Bank in UK?

Just a question of curiosity, not money saving related, but does anyone know which UK retail bank holds the most current accounts?

Is it HSBC, RBS, Lloyds Bank, Barclays, Santander, TSB or Natwest?

Just interested :rotfl:

Your missing a few banks from your list. How would anyone on here know that number lol. I doubt banks would give numbers of what accounts, they might give how many customers they have to studies like on TV etc.

Lloyds banking group was the largest but that number has reduced as TSB has been separated as a sole entity.

Still the largest financial institution, mainly as it also contains Halifax & Bank Of Scotland, but traditionally Halifax would mainly be mortgage or savings based customers.

I would think Barclays have the largest volume, with perhaps Lloyds or Nat West/RBS next in the pecking order. Remember though this will include business accounts, generally these banks have the bulk share of them.
But as for the most "switched too" bank in recent years, probably Santander, Halifax or Nationwide so slowly and surely we may see a change in the biggest current account provider in UK.
  • Page 46 shows it was Lloyds Banking Group as at August 2012. This will include Lloyds, BoS, Halifax and TSB. TSB won't be significant if you strip it out.

Since then I'd anticipate Santander have grown their market share a little. But LBG will still be biggest.

Lloyds Banking Group is the leading provider of both Current Accounts and Mortgages.
