Emailing Google Docs

Please help - I am probably missing the obvious!!

I am trying to email an attachment which I have typed and saved on Google Docs, however when I press the attachment button on an email, I cannot find Google Docs, only One Drive.

If One Drive is for Office then I dont have this.

Is there an easy way of saving this to send by email?

Thanks

Click the Share Button on the Google Docs page and that will let you enter email addresses to send to.

If you want to send as an attachment open the document in Google Docs then go to File then Send As Attachment. (That's the Google Docs File Menu not the one at the top of your browser).

  • Thanks Shopbot, have managed to send it following your instructions.

My main email account is a hotmail account - for future reference can I send Google Docs through Hotmail, or do I have to use the Googlemail email account which is registered on my Google account?

OneDrive is Microsoft's Version of Google Drive, which explains why it appears to be the default option when using hotmail (also owned by Microsoft).

If you download and save documents to your computer, you can attach them to any email, including hotmail. To skip a step it might be worthwhile you 'downloading' Google Drive app to your computer, so that the files you have stored on there show up in a folder within the documents on your computer. You can then attach them directly from any email acount. Start here: https://tools.google.com/dlpage/drive

In addition to what SeduLOUs has said you can continue using Hotmail. Unless you specifically have to send as an attachment then sending a link to the document is very quick. Just click Share when the document is open. Then in the top right of the box that pops up click 'Get Shareable Link'.

I personally don't like to share via links, as it means they may see a different version of the file depending on the date they view it, or they may not be able to access anything if I later remove the file from my Drive.

I like to send attachments as they are solid and unchangeable versions, and I can refer to my sent items to see exactly which version they are looking at. But really it all depends on the sort of stuff you are sending.
