Copying a blue ray dvd?

Hi, before anybody thinks this is anything illegal it's not! Its just my cousins wedding which is on blue ray.

My laptop plays blue rays (so does the ps3) but i need to make a copy of the wedding for someone else.

I have bought some BD-R disks but im not sure how to copy them, is there some kind of program/software i need or can it be done in windows (laptop has windows vista on it)

Is it safe to assume that the laptop can burn blue rays simply because of the fact it can play them?

Thanks

No, very unlikely to have a Bluray capable burner installed.

How can i find out if it is or not please?
  • Find out if its a BR burner or not, if it isnt then either you will have to buy one or alternatively downscale the video so that it can be put on a DVD instead

Its more complex to rescale than simply keep in BR but not rocket science either

Blu-ray writers are pretty uncommon, so theres a good chance your laptop doesn't have one.

most blu-ray drives will be read-only, but may write dvd's

    also, if you have a blu-ray writer you need to make sure the discs are big enough for the one you are copying, as there are different sizes;

another option would be to rip the bluray onto the computer then create a dvd from it instead

    Thanks guys

I tried the imgburn route and sadly it is read only for blue rays

So how can i go about trying to scale it down and burn it to a normal dvd disk (it does have dvd write capabilities) or ripping the blue ray onto the laptop and creating a dvd from it instead, as cycrow suggested?

you could try something like dvdfab, it has a blu-ray to dvd convertor. There is a free trial available that should be good enough.
There may be other software that can do similar.

the other is to use a range of software, first some kind of blu-ray ripping software. Then you need some dvd authoring software to put it into dvd format.

unfortunately im not up-to date on other software as i tend to stick to dvdfab for everything
