People in the UK are using less energy even though the economy is growing, new figures confirm.

Great news, however I suspect the underlier is somewhat different.

    Err, they already do that?

    Not that I know of.

Certain people already get Viagra for free, as there are Prescription Exemption Certificates for various qualifying groups, as well as automatic free prescription for OAPs.
It's only a small leap to tell people to have more safe sex, which:

    1. Makes you happy
    2. Give you exercise
    3. Keeps you warm. so you can turn the heat down, and...
    4. Saves energy

For single people, stay over night means only one house needs to be heated. Even more energy saving.

Or it will be because the economy isn't really growing as the Government keep spinning and the average person (pretty much those of us on the forum) are struggling to keep up with increasing prices of everything so are cutting back continually.

The only growth in the UK is in the bankers & MPs pockets!

Yep, plus people have bought into all this 'green taxes' carp and are happy to pay over the top and turn their heating off for most of the time.

If anyone ever bothers to look behind the green energy façade, you will see an awful lot of people getting rich on the back of the ordinary bill payer. But it's green and we should be grateful, actually, it's a just a con and you're being ripped off by it all.

With the prices of oil dropping so rapidly, should we not (by now) be seeing reduction in our Gas and Electricity costs?

Maybe if they reduced the prices BEFORE winter for a change we would actually be able to comfortably use that extra 10% again....

And then polygamy will be encouraged. Three or four in a bed is warmer than two. It will encourage better car usage, too - married quadruples driving around together. \o/

But on a more serious note, without reading any more into it than has been said, it's good news that energy consumption is decreasing. Everyone should be switching things off at the wall.

My long-term plans are to produce 50% of my consumption (e.g. have solar panels, grow fruit and vegetables and keep chickens) and I would love to see more encouragement for further self-sufficiency in society.

Oil and gas are not interchangeable fuels (well, not much). How many dual fuel diesel/natural gas cars do you see?

There is only one oil burning power station in the UK, and it shuts down permanently in March. So, oil can't replace coal or gas that way.

While the US has lots of natural gas due to fracking, there aren't any facilities to export it, so in the UK, we can't buy it in.

I thought there was some kind of correlation between the Oil and gas prices?
