Yorkshire CC - proving address without proof of address?

So my wife applied for one of these credit cards & got paperwork back requesting she goes in branch to prove her bank statements & address.

Bank statements - no problem.

She put the new address on the application since we expect to be moving in there next month but we haven't actually had any utility bill with her name on. We pay gas & electric (no water) which are online & in my name. No council tax letter and if i remember right they come in my name also.

So how can she go forward with this application? We'll be in town tomorrow so i thought i'd get in & ask now :)

Why didn't she put her current address?

If she put in the new address that you aren't moving into until next month, all correspondence, and the card + PIN (If approved) would be sent there.

It doesn't make sense for her to put in an address that she hasn't even moved into yet.
  • Because we'll be moving there in a few weeks time. Just need to buy in furniture really & then we're good to go.

That aside, let's say we'd just moved in. We've still not had any of the bills required.
  • The council tax bill should be in both your names.
  • It might've been, it's been a while since we had one.

Point is, we don't have it, or a water bill, or an electricity or gas bill (although i imagine i do have online versions of those 2).

Question is where to from here? Or is the answer nowhere until one of those bills comes available? Do they even accept online bills? If memory serves then these sort of places don't like online printouts. I can't remember what it was for now but i needed to provide a bill for something. Probably an application of somesort & they didn't accept an online version. They wanted it direct & stamped up.

As MrSilk says, use your current address - using an address where you won't be moving to for a few weeks is a stupid thing to do as you may never get the mail that they send, which will include the card and it's PIN, so an open invitation to fraudulent behaviour. Or just wait until you've moved and you do have bills for the new address.
  • Just wondering why we may never get the mail?

If anything, we've got a better chance of getting the mail!

The current owners might "return to sender, not at this address". I would, especially if I thought there was a bank card in the envelope.

i wouldn't. if i could clearly see it was for the people that were buying the house, i would either leave it waiting for them, or i would pass it to them.

but, JAS, your thread title answers the question, to a degree. you can't prove it with no proof. and you can't prove it's your address, because it isn't. as above, you've stated your current address to be the address that you are going to live at, so you aren't going to be able to prove you live there.

you need to either use your current address, or wait until you move.

    good luck with the move.:)

I'm guessing from the furniture comment that the OP has bought the house already, but hasn't actually started living there yet. Otherwise the OP would be talking about more serious things like completion and whether they trust the sellers with bank cards.

But without proof, you won't get it. You could either change your address for the application, and ring them immediately after receiving your card to change it, or wait until you have the proof.
