potterton performa boiler very noisy when firing up

we have a potterton performa 28 gas c/h boiler installed new around ten years old. regularly serviced by installer a reputable local firm. started to sound a bit noisy earlier this year - almost as if it had air in system so got them out for a service. the engineer said it looked as though it had had a small leak but this had sealed via calcium (very hard water locally) and as it was no longer leaking and working fine could ignore it.
Recently it has got much louder and makes a rattling sound when firing up. everything works fine and it is not recording any loss of water or pressure and no warning lights are on, on it is just damn noisy whenever it cuts in.
Does boiler need replacing? how long should it last?is ten years end of life expectancy ? would have expected longer.

Ten years isn't bad, especially if you're in a hard water area. If it's safe and working without losing pressure I'd be inclined to put up with the noise.0

There a pretty good boiler. I'd expect it to be fan or pump, are usual suspects to being noisy. Nothing to worry about unless it's bothering you0

Our Potterton Performa went to the great gas scrapheap at about 10 years , basically because the service engineer could not get the parts anymore. You scullion! You rampallian! You fustilarian! I’ll tickle your catastrophe (Henry IV part 2)0

They lied or you didn't have a performa!0 -
Well anotherbaldrick, your gas engineer must have been pulling a fast one as Potterton did not start manufacturing it until 2004 and it is only 2014 now. Or maybe your memory is playing tricks?0
