Light bulb question

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/6X-B22-9W-BC-Bayonet-Golf-LED-Globe-Energy-Saving-Light-Bulbs-Lamps-Warm-White-/181550487141?ssPageName=ADME:X:AAQ:GB:1123

Given the specifications of the light bulbs linked-to above, what do you think *one* of these in a small living room would be like compared to a traditional 60W bulb?

Or compared to "standard" CFL energy saving light bulbs, eg http://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/i.html?_odkw=energy&_from=R40&_osacat=20706&_from=R40&_trksid=p2045573.m570.l1313.TR11.TRC1.A0.H0.Xenergy+cfl&_nkw=energy+cfl&_sacat=20706

  • I'd guess a little lower than a 60w lamp

So although it states 'Wattage (=halogen) 120W' then I expect this does relate to a 120W traditional bulb?

    Few things;

    1) 50,000 hours is not achievable. I've been in the LED industry for 14 years now and I've yet to see testing reports that prove an LED Lamp like this can achieve 50,000 hours with proper illumination. Good quality LED's usually state 25,000 hours.

    2) 6000 - 6500k will be a very bright white/blue ish light. Not many applications suit this colour, certainly not in your home.

    3) They look exactly like the LED Bulbs in this link - http://www.ledinside.com/news/2014/12/chinese_vendor_sells_leds_at_unbelievable_low_price

    4) 1000 warm white lumens would be akin to a 100w Incandescent. But this colour temp is nowhere near that of a regular incandescent which would have a colour temp around 2700k.
  • They're too cheap. From my experience of cheap Ebay LED's I suspect that you will only get a year's use out of them if you are lucky before they stop working. We've got the 7W and 12W equivalents from Toolstation which have served us well in the hall and bathroom. They're more than double the price but worth it in my opinion.

The specs on the bulbs are a lie. Plenty of that on eBay!

I would also say dont buy off ebay unless they are branded one's that are available cheaper on ebay than anywhere else.
I bought some led's off ebay and less than 6 months and they are begining to fail already.
I am replacing them with philips, It might not go all the way to 25k or 30k hours but I am sure will be well worth the money
Also one more thing, since I have used both from ebay and philips, ebay bulbs normally say 60 degrees beam angle which is crap, philips on there box said 36 degrees and I found them a lot better than the one's I got from ebay.

Also, those have the biggest 'collar' that I've ever seen. That's the white plastic/metal slieve between the bayonet fitting and the glass itself. That bulb will have a very poor output range, I think. Most light will be directed upwards. I agree with others that they're far too cheap.

Instead of buying cheap foreign imported rubbish that in all reality is also probably fake, I suggest you visit one of your local electrical wholesalers like CEF - Newey and Eyre - Electric Center ...etc and buy what you want from a reputable dealer.

They will honor guarantees given by manufacturer. There have been quite a few reports of really dangerous imports causing fires and ones that are downright dangerous with the housings becoming live in recent years.

I honestly don't know why people pay £1000's for a house yet install cheap garbage off ebay that is a potential death trap, fair enough you might get something decent but do you really know it's not a knock off ? personally speaking I wouldn't buy any electrical goods off ebay unless it's from a recognised dealer.

    You mean 'fake'?!
You need to take the published specs with a massive pinch of salt, and the 'equivalent to' specs with an even bigger pinch of salt.

Sorry I did not mean fake but if you want to buy a philips light it could be available for a tenner at bnq but for 7 on ebay or other retailers, that is what I meant
