A fair point, if your new-golf-every-3-years guy kept his for 4 years, he'd be better off than the 3-year-lease guy. Even more so if he kept it for 5 years, and so on.0

Of course, yes. But you've taken what i said away from the context - it was in the context of there were a certain percentage of cash purchases which were therefore very MSE.
I was showing that of course is not always the case.
I agree that not all cash purchases are MSE, but unless your example was someone on this site its not really relevant.
Cash purchases aren't always MSE, but lease purchases never are so the proportion is as you would expect0 -
I own my car, 51 plate Passat.
Just had to replace a sidelight bulb and it flew through mot again.
Spent about a tenner on repairs in nearly 2 years.0 -

Company cars / vans for work don't really count for this poll as it will never be yours / never have a chance of being yours.
What about if it's a company van and you own the company:p
In which case 17 yes, and 2 on a lease.0 -
13 yo car with less than 50k on the clock, given to me 2 year ago in "like new" condition by my mum who had owned it from 6 months old outright. SO.. technically owned outright but cost nothingI don't respond to stupid so that's why I am ignoring you.
2015 £2 saver #188 = £450 -

Paid cash brand new in September 2010, still under warranty for another 74,000 miles. Keeping it in the family until it dies or I do.0

So somebody thinks out side the box and saves a fortune but its not very relevant as they arent someone on this site??
Yeah right.
The whole point of the discussion was that it was expected that there would be a high percentage of people owning cars outright on here - because its MSE !
Your example only saves money against something which is even more a waste of money! Its still not a MSE thing to do..
Burning £5 notes to keep warm is much more efficient than burning tenners, but that doesn't make it money-saving.
I hope you get what I mean now.0
