Blu Ray Home Theatre System

We have a phillips home theatre system and the blu ray player unit no longer works. We want to buy another 3D blu ray player but are struggling to find out what one would be compatible with the speakers. We dont want to buy a whole new entertainment system. I have contacted the manufacturer and they don't sell the unit separately. Any ideas of what we can do?
Thanks

  • Little you can do, these all in one systems are intentionally designed to be an all or nothing set up.

Have you looked on eBay to see if someone is selling one or a similar model?

A friend years ago decided to upgrade his set up to separates from an all in one but not being able to afford to buy it all at once he bought the new amp first and the L & R speaker and wired up the other 3 speakers and sub. First of all it sounded terrible and secondly the speakers died quickly.
  • What sort of connectors do the speakers have? Bare wires? banana plugs? something proprietary?
can Phillips not advise you on a viable alternative?
    Friendly greeting!

What model Philips? Hopefully yours has an HDMI in connection?
Most have a facility to accept input from external source. If yours does, any Blu Ray Player will work.
NB: It is the amp in your system which should be compatible with the speakers.

I repeat the question - how do the speakers connect to the unit - if it's two bare wires, they're comnpatible with any HiFi separate. If there's a funny connector at the end, it MAY be able to be cut off, leaving you with the wires to strip, and connect to that HiFi equipment. Have a look or give us the model number...

They may not be compatible regardless of connection. It will depend on the impedance of the speakers. Often these all in one speakers have a low impedance which can't be used with many amplifiers.

Good call wongataa - HiFi stuff is generally standardised around 8ohms, but amps will usually accept speakers between 8 and16 ohms.
