I was offered a similar sum recently simply because they failed to supply personal information held in a timely manner.0 -
Having worked in complaints handling for a major High Street Bank, I think this is a fair offer. However breaches like this are of a serious nature and the Bank have already admitted liability. Therefore it is probably worth negotiating, as they can't lower this offer. However with any compensation claim with a bank you need to evidence your losses. This can be for the delay in receiving the information (bank's fault) as well any "stress/discomfort" the data breach may have caused you.
But as I have already said above, it seems a good offer, and the bank have put their hands up straight away and been honest with you... which should count for something.0 -
I would only conditionally accept their present offer as you might experience ID fraud months down the line. Hopefully it never happens but if it does, you want to be able to hold the bank responsible for it.0
