My wife received a PCN on 22nd November and only now has she dropped it on me.
After doing much research I am more confused than ever.

Fictitious Scenerio -
Father owns large parking enforcement firm - makes money from charges.
Son trains in Law and sets up his own firm to supposedly help motorists free themselves of these charges for a fixed one-off fee amounting to approx 1/10th of the PCN charge his father gets.
The clincher? Son 100% guarantees to prospective punter that he can make these charges go away or he'll pay the fine.
Punter thinks this is great and willingly pays up.
Son gets a nice little earner for rubber stamping/hitting the delete key.
Father gets paid every time without court costs etc.

Now, how to find if there are any links between the two?

For the sake of clarity I am not alleging anything against anyone.
Everything here is to the best of my knowledge fictitious.

Comments?

BTW - Has anyone successfully used any of the online companies who offer services such as this?

If so, what was the outcome?

I was with you until this,

Son gets a nice little earner for rubber stamping/hitting the delete key.

    then you lost me
You never know how far you can go until you go too far.
  • Only one company offers a "guarantee" to make it go away. It seems to be doing so by phoenixing its liabilities.

A more reasonable offer would be to charge a little less, and offer a no-fix no-fee deal.
  • I've got an even better wheeze.
How about setting up a ppc to actually manage a car park, you know like advising drivers they are blocking 2 bays and could they move a bit or telling a driver not to park there as a disabled driver will want the bay. That would be a winner I'm sure.
I'd rather be an Optimist and be proved wrong than a Pessimist and be proved right.

But how would the PPC make money if they helped the motorist?

They'd have to charge the landowner for their management services...

Since my wife only informed me of the PCN yesterday (25 days after she got it) and having become totally confused as to what I should do next, despite having spent hours yesterday reading articles all across the web, I thought it would be just easier to pay a small fee to someone who handles such things on a regular basis to resolve the matter.

I have indeed found and engaged the parking appeals company to act on my behalf because £16 is much cheaper than £100+. I did check them by using a website called duedil where you can register and gain free access to a certain level of information.

I found that the company has one director and has been going since April 2014, but what got my antenna twitching was that he's only 21 and I haven't seen any other references.

I paid by paypal and have received an emailed reply from them. Being self-employed, I know a little about how a company can be structured, and just wondered if the fictitious scenario I posted above could be possible.

Most likely I have done the wrong thing and will end up with a £100+ bill at the end, but to be honest I'm completely stuck as to handle this PCN issue. Changing and conflicting rules, changing advice, different outcomes. Work has been quiet recently and my wife lost her father last week. The last thing we want right now is further hassle in the run up to Xmas.

Please note, we are not a legal advice forum. I personally don't get involved in critiquing court case Defences/Witness Statements, so unable to help on that front. Please don't ask. .

I provide only my personal opinion, it is not a legal opinion, it is simply a personal one. I am not a lawyer.
