Extended Warranties for Cars

My Network Q Warranty is about to expire, for my 4 year old Astra.

I can get a Autoprotect Warranty from my local Vauxhall Dealer, or pay more and extended my Network Q Warranty.

Anyone recommend a good car warranty?

Go with a manufacturers warranty after that dont bother. Save up for any potential repairs.

You do check the oil and fluid levels weekly dont you? A proper service yearly?

    I agree also.....

Unless OP is one of those muppets that doesn't listen to and "feel" their car, letting minor problems fester into expensive repair bills.

"Oh, what's that loud clunking noise? *turn radio up* heh, problem solved"

My 10yr old Vectra has cost me about £900 over the course of 6 years, in non-wear and tear repairs, one of those is debatable as it was the gearbox+clutch (£700).
Many warranties would class gearbox+clutch as wear and tear too, or they'd just cover the part that failed (main output bearing) but not the damage that caused to the rest of the box. Same as they might cover a cambelt, but not the damage it caused to the engine.

Everything else has been wear and tear items, brakes, battery, exhaust, etc, which a warranty just won't cover.

But of course, some of the repairs, if left for 6 months, could have resulted in a very large repair bill. So it really is about not being lazy and actually taking responsibility for your own cars health.

And probably wouldn't be covered anyway, as they'd only warrant the original issue (if at all), not any subsequent damage.

Exactly, like I said they might for example cover the cambelt (which is about £50), but if it snaps you'll be forking out for a new engine (£800+) to attach that £50 cambelt to.
