UPVC french doors

I wonder if anyone can give me the benefit of their opinion please. At the moment we have wooden french doors between the kitchen and the garden. Although they are double glazed ( two opening doors and two fixed side panels), they are very draughty. Even the key lock blows a howling gale at times!
I want to swap them for UPVC to keep the kitchen warmer and to match the UPVC windows in the kitchen. I know this is a how long is a piece of string question, but given that the door unit is approx 8 ft 6 ins wide and normal height, any ideas about the cost of replacing and fitting? I imagine there are different qualities of UPVC. What do I need to look for/ ask about? Is 28mm glass correct?
Thanks!!

We have upvc french doors. The good thing is of course simplicity, low maintenance, weatherproofing and security.
As you have noted, not all windows are the same.
Ours are Koemmerling profile..quite chunky and therefore dont flap about or stick !

Just been quoted £2000. Seems rather a lot to me. Company use upvc frames made by ecoenergy. Said it would be a day's work. I am awaiting a quote from a Polish builder, but am worried that if the price is a lot lower, so will the quality of the doors? Ooh eck, what to do?0

We bought two sets of UPVC French doors with full side panels from Wickes, cost just over £600 per set. This was about three years ago so will be a bit more now. We used a self employed local window installer that charged us £200 to install both sets, the openings were already the correct size as these were for a new extension. Almost certainly not the best you can buy but at that price good enough for our needs.
Just checked and the price is now £839 per set.0 -
I can't remember the costs involved but we had these fitted when our double glazing was done. The doors continually warped and were difficult to lock and unlock. The installer completely reset them but it still happened. After three years we decided to replace them with sturdier ones - the same thing happens. Ours face south so the hot summer sun plays havock with them. They are brown plastic, so maybe that attracts more heat. It's a pain.0

Had a new upvc front door - with surrounding panels, together with a pair of French doors and an adjoining (opening) window each - cost in the region £2785 !
Did have a problem with shutting the French-doors - not air tight. But they came back and a few quick adjustments and no problem.
Glass design on the front door is great, much less sound in the front, and no longer 'cold areas' with either.I used to work for Tesco - now retired - speciality Clubcard0
