design fault with tap causes flood...help

My daughter had been in the bathroom just before we went out and must not have closed the tap properly...asI said before it is very easily done...we were out for 3 hours. The laptop was open on the living room floor and thewater dripped from the ceilinginto it..I havetaken it in to PC world and they have said its beyond repair....the worst thing is a lot of my work is on it
I feel I m having to defend myself here.....and Iwas after advice on how to go about getting back the cost of the damages. It seems as though I am not going to get the help here that I thought and hoped I might. The plumbers I have had out cannot believe the bathroom company can get away with this and nor can I but it seems they will.0 -
With most units they are designed so if water does run down the tap like this one does the water is channelled back into the basin. The unit is flat and therefore the water runs down the tap, onto the unit and then onto the floor. We were sold the tap and theunit together. In 3 hours this would be quite a lot of water0

You still used it after 3 floods? Self inflicted springs to mind.0

You need to find an 'expert' to examine the tap and declare it as having a design fault."You were only supposed to blow the bl**dy doors off!!"0 -
I believe this tap is poorly designed and shouldn't allow water to run underneath, even if it's not turned off properly it shouldn't do this.
I'd be inclined to get the tap changed and pursue the bathroom company further, through the small claims court if necessary.
What is the make and model of the tap?
Will your plumber put something in writing to say he believes the tap to be poorly designed?0 -
I know loads of people who have these fancy taps. (Can't see the attraction of them myself) I've not heard of anyone having this problem before though. Sounds like user error really rather than a design flaw.
I would have changed the tap after the first flood.0 -

I agree I would of been inclined after the first time even at my own expense...you can pick taps up pretty cheap.0 -

Lots of cheap taps will run back if not turned off properly. The same way that those little stainless steel teapots that you get in some cafes do. It's simple physics.0

I doubt this was a cheap tap.0
