Now TV have sent my details to another customer

Hi,

Don't know if this is the right place to post this, but I ordered a Now TV box from their site. Set the box up, all fine, as ordered etc. Later I went to retrieve the dispatch note to retain it for warranty purposes, only to discover it isn't my address on it. (Address on the outside packing obviously was mine.)

I always burn/shred things with my name and address on to prevent them being used fraudulently, and now I can only presume that some other customer has my correct dispatch note and hence, my personal details in their entirety. Not such a big concern for the bloke whose note I got, seeing as he had his order delivered to his workplace.

Is there anywhere I can report this to or anything I can do to prevent fraud?

Let the retailer know there has been an error in their systems. Then forget about it - the likelihood of hire details being sent to a fraudster is very, very low.

As above, the likelihood of fraud is miniscule. I presume the note only contained your name and address, which is easily accessible to people anyway.

On the plus side if you are defrauded you know who did it and where they work :)

Presumably, though there's no guarantee that there hasn't been a three way (or more) swap of details.

Have emailed Now TV; annoyingly, they don't have a phone number.

It was only name and address, but I always opt out of the edited register so I shouldn't be that accessible.

Nobody could do much damage if any with just someone else's name and address... A simple mistake...

Received an email back from them. Rather than a simple apology and we will look to improve in the future to ensure that it doesn't happen again or whatever, they're expecting me to send the box back to them, so they can re-order it from their end and send me another one!

Ridiculous! What I received was exactly what was ordered, it's just a simple case of them having put the wrong piece of paper in the wrong parcel.

I presume it's safe to ignore it? Why should I be out of pocket by x amount to return what I actually ordered, wait again for delivery, lose my TopCashback as they'd be re-ordering from their end and waste over a week of my Movies trial in the meantime?

I'm sure you've got nothing to worry about but you can always report it to ICO https://ico.org.uk/concerns/handling/

Now TV should be letting them know anyway (I work for a much smaller company and we have to supply a monthly report which details any personal data breaches) but, considering their reply to you, I wouldn't assume they'll bother.

    I think that's a bit dramatic!

What personal details are we talking about, beyond name and address? (bearing in mind that name and address are on the outside of pretty much any letter or parcel you receive.
