Chargeback on a closed credit card account

Hi all,

We had tickets to "The Magical Journey" attraction next week but they've since closed. On their website they say we should use chargeback on our credit card to reclaim the money.

Unfortunately we paid them just before switching banks and credit cards and the card used is no longer active. I don't even remember the number and I've shredded the card.

How do I go about claiming my money back from these people? I've emailed them but I'm not optimistic about hearing back from them or getting an alternate way to claim my money. From all reports it seems as though they've completely gone out of business.

Hope someone can help.
Max

  • Contact the provider of the credit card you used. If they agree, they will initiate a charge back and then refund the money to use once it is credited back to the account.

Being closed makes no difference, unless it was so long ago that it has been conpletely purged from their systems.

Thanks. I've contacted them and they say they "can't promise anything because the account was closed". Apparently it was on my debit card on the bank not my credit card. I don't know it that makes a difference.

I've got to mail them as much information as possible about the attraction going out of business and all the relevant information regarding the purchase and they'll "do their best".

    Fingers crossed!

Usually there is 6 months to initiate a chargeback and shouldn't really differ on closed accounts.

    6 months from what?
In fact it's "within 120 days of purchase or expected service provision date".

@OP. Switching a CC doesn't meant that the old one has to be closed. If you decide to close it, it's really worth keeping something, e.g. statements, for at least a year - instead of shredding everything.
