gas system registered incorrectly

Guys
Just trying to evaluate my options.
As part of our new extension we got new boiler and hot water tank installed (unvented system). Long story short our original contractor disappeared leaving us in a big mess.
Anyway we got a recommended (through friend) gas engineer who completed the job for us. When he came to give us a quote he realised what had happened but agreed to do the work, naturally justifying extras for putting the work right which in his opinion was not done right. We agreed that work has to be done right and must meet the requirements, specially he was going to certify the work.
Work completed got registered and when we received the paper work from Gas Safe we noticed that the certificate indicated that our system is ‘vented’. We contacted him and asked him why our system registered as vented as he clearly told us that it was ‘unvented’? He told us that it must be a mistake from Gas Safe and we should contact Gas Safe and ask them to rectify the mistake. We called the Gas Safe and they told us it’s got nothing to do with us or mistake, it’s the installer’s job to put this right and he must contact them to put it right.
To cut the story short we are not getting anywhere with him, he has been giving us all sorts of excuses and now not answering our phones calls.
We just want to evaluate our options, do we contact local trading standard or we need to contact local council (Building control) as soon we shall be requesting for the completion certificate?
We just been through hell and don’t want to open another can of worms because of our ignorance!
Cheers

Probably doesn't have the necessary quals to do unvented installs (G3) - but you can check this on the gassaferegister.
A good starting point.

Thanks Russ, yes i checked him on the gassaferegister(stupid i did after not before) and it seems that he does not have the necessary quals!
So what next?0 -
Well, tell him you'll be reporting him to gassafe unless he gets someone to sign off his work and give you a certificate.
See if that gee's him up a little.
After that see if GS will actually do anything (I doubt it).
After that source your own qual'd fitter to check out the work and get it certified (might find that a bit difficult tho to be honest).
After that, not much else can be done, but of course plenty of others on here may be able to add a bit more advice for you.

G3 is nothing to do with GS so that will get you nowhere, you need to report him to LBC then get them to come out & inspect which will cost you between £200-£300, then take him to small claims to recover your costsI'm only here while I wait for Corrie to start.
You get no BS from me & if I think you are wrong I WILL tell you.0 -
Tricky guy must be a complete numb nuts assuming all the info on the form sent to gas safe is correct e/g serial make model etc Yes you can pursue him through court if he has not provided what is quoted and paid for …
Building control are interesting unless the laws have changed onus used to be on the owner / client etc to ensure compliance they come after you, Then you go after whomever etc ,,,
Many would hand in paperwork to building control get project signed off (doubt very much they know or care if its correct all they want is paper work its simply a pass liability exercise.) Then get a another Gas safe guy in to issue landlords ticket on boiler etc (£50 – 100 You could do this before and hand in that paperwork but might get tricky ) Then pursue original start with Gas safe yes they’ll do little but will put a little pressure on them, Then through appropriate governing body then through solicitors letters, then through courts0 -
IT'S NOT A GAS SAFE ISSUE
A unvented cylinder doesn't have gas therefore they won't be interestedI'm only here while I wait for Corrie to start.

That would depend what they put in there quote ? You can notify unvented through gas safe think its £2.30 Normally when you sign up GS ask qualifications etc and you can have unvented on your card ...? But getting them to acknowledge or do anything etc would be hard work ?southcoastrgi wrote: »IT'S NOT A GAS SAFE ISSUE

yes thats true I have unvented on my card, however it is only so you can save the hassle of reg with LBC & you can reg the install through GS, I'm just trying to save the OP from wasting their time, it's a LBC & or trading standards issueI'm only here while I wait for Corrie to start.

thanks guys for your input, yeah i kind of gathered that Gas Safe were not interested when i called them originally, hence the reason for posting there to find out my options.
Anyway i will drop him a line telling him if he does not rectify this by such and such date then i will take this matter to Trading Standard.
I appreciate i could go to Building Control but unsure how this will impact me getting the completion certificate?
