TV viewing distance

THX recommend dividing the screensize by 0.84 to get the viewing distance so a 40" screen is 4-6 foot away - they are certainly the ones encouraging the biggest screen size

Ultimately I think it depends on how much you want your screen to dominate your room, what you are watching etc. I can see for movies that bigger is always going to be better but I wouldnt ever want to see eastenders on my 110" projector screen with dot cotton at 4 times life size etc.0 -
One of the things i'm very concious of when watching Tv, or listening to the radio, is how loud is it ? My hearing isn't as good as it once was and i hate the thought that it may be to loud to annoy my neighbour. I think it's 'cos in my last house the people next door always played stuff loudly.Liverpool is one of the wonders of Britain,
What it may grow to in time, I know not what.

For years I have used Sennheiser remote(i.e. wireless) headphones. The base unit plugs in to the headphone socket on the TV or any other appliance.
The sound is fabulous;as is the stereo. You can have them at the sound level you want and others can listen to the TV speakers or another person can have their own set of headphones run from the same base unit.
There are several models ranging from this:

to this lot:

I have both the RS110 and RS 170 and prefer the cheaper RS 110
PS Most modern TV(except Samsung) allow sound simultaneously from earphone socket and TV speakers.0 -
'Viewing distance' can certainly be used as a guide but there can't be a right and wrong, it's about confort and opinion. And it changes depending on so many factors.
And then you go to the cinema...0
