Best 50" LED TV?

I’m after a 50" LED TV for no more that £1500.00, there are loads on the market - 4K UHD etc etc from my understanding Samsung seem to be the market leaders.
I popped into the local Curry’s to be told that they would strongly recommend the new Sony TV's over Samsung...
Any thoughts? is there any TV geniuses out there? Would it be best to wait for boxing day or new year sales?

There is no clear market leader at the moment and all the major manufacturers are receiving good reviews.
There is a general question of what is the point of paying for 4k when (a) the format isnt finalised and (b) there is so little 4k content. In 3-4 years time where there may be more content then your TV may not be able to play it. Certainly last years models wont as HDMI format has since been updated.
Samsung do allow the mid range and above machines to replace the brains for a fairly modest price to combat this issue but dont know if Sony are the same.
Of cause there is the competing technology of OLED on the horizon and so perhaps investing in top of your budget now isnt the best option0 -

Just to add, my answer is yes 4k is worth it because I am a bit of a tech junky and so replace my TV every 3-4 years anyway and with a large screen size (65") the upscaling may be benefitial and what 4k content does exist looks stunning.
If you upgrade only on necessity/ every decade or so then its much more questionable

You can go bigger for £1,500, or cheaper for 50 inch, even at 4K, and especially if you wait till January.0
