Best cheapish laptop?

I am having problems with the laptop - it's running slowly and crashing a lot, and worse the socket is !!!!!!ed - and am just going to buy a new one rather than fix it, since I've had it a couple of years and it only cost me a couple of hundred quid refurbished.
I don't play any games and only need it for surfing and downloading music, not films or anything, at least not yet. The current one has a 2gb RAM and 1.7 ghz processor so maybe wasn't that great to start with.
Been looking at the following, please advise if they are decent or recommend something similar:
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Compaq-15-s104na-Notebook-Celeron-Graphics/dp/B00O0L0B5E/ref=sr_1_11?s=computers&ie=UTF8&qid=1418559858&sr=1-11&keywords=laptop
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Toshiba-Sa...item27ef932914
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/POWERFUL-W...item4aba84d6a4
Also, what difference would size or quality of the processor make to functionality? Anything else I should look out for? Thanks.

I'd go for the first one out of the three, the Celeron based Compaq from Amazon. It's got a couple of things in its favour. It's got the best CPU, most RAM and the biggest HDD. All for not much more to be honest.0

I'd recommend this one - http://www.ebuyer.com/665844-lenovo-b50-30-laptop-mca2wuk
£170 once you've claimed the cashback.0 -

Glorified Netbook processor and Windows 8.1 with BING..0 -
Nothing wrong with 8.1 with Bing - it's literally just got Bing as the default search engine, and can be easily changed. Still full on Windows 8.1.0

Sorry but you're wrong - I've bought a couple of these and they perform really well. In fact I'm surprised at how good they are for the price! Yes it is Win 8.1 (with Bing) ..... it's still Win 8.1.
I'm recommending it on the basis that I've used one - hope that helps.0 -
Given that you only really browse and watch the odd film or 2 you should get a Chromebook.
Boot up in under 1 second, virus free and quicker than my laptop and ipad.
I nearly always reach for the Chromebook first before the other 2.0 -
I'm not wrong...it's a Netbook Processor(similar processing power to my six year old Celeron processor) and it's not Windows 8.1 Standard(Core), it's Windows 8.1 with BING.
Different SKU....on the CoreConnected tree.
You don't have an idea...so leave it.
Just make sure that you make a Recovery USB.
That being said, I'm still using my six year old laptop.0
