Call Credit is the third credit referencing agency. You can get your statutory credit report from Call Credit for free through Noddle.

  • Oh, yes - I have had a report from them, wasn't on the Electrol Roll with them either but they did rectify the wrong address details.

    Thank you for your help.

Most window companies will offer some sort of finance package, so you might be best enquiring via them. No idea what the rate will be though but you presumably have a better chance doing it that way than getting a cash loan.

Alternatively, there are cheaper things you can do to temporarily seal up the windows better. If you say they are rotting then they must be wooden, so can you replace the bad bits of wood and line them with plastic sheeting/bubblewrap/etc, and run some silicone putty around the seals?

The glass will be fine, most of the heat escaping will be from the seals or gaps in the frame.
  • If any of the Credit Reference Agencies have you as not showing on the Electoral Register, check with the local council. Make sure also that the Electoral Register has the correct postcode for your address.

My son and I were not shown on the ER with all three CRA's although I knew we were on there. It transpired the council had a slightly different postcode for our address rather than the correct one. I had to get a letter from the council and email a copy to the CRA's to get things corrected.

I am needing new windows as the ones are rotting as the house is cold.

Hitachi and Freedom are known for pretty much accepting anyone with a pulse. If you cant get them to bite, none of the reputable lenders will either. The window replacement firms will also use these same creditors to do the finance for them, so it is unlikely that it will happen that way either.

A better route is to save up and have your windows replaced in the summer. Live with the fact that it is cold and put a jumper on. You wont freeze solid and the cold weather will be over in 12 weeks.

  • Bodge, bodge and bodge again. We lived for years with rotting wooden windows. My husband absolutely refused to have a loan for anything. We saved up and replaced one window at a time, going down to the 'trade place' with measurements and fitting himself with help from a friend. Saved a fortune which is just as well as mortgage interest rates shot up to 16%.

Get some thick curtains and shut it out for the winter.
