So, I made our christmas cake a while ago now, and have been feeding it regularly since - smells nice & boozy
When does everyone marzipan & ice ? Should I leave the marzipan to dry out before icing ? If so, any ideas how long this should be please ? I'm using the ready rolled stuff (I know, the shame!) for both, so don't necessarily need the icing fondant to go hard
TIA!

In an ideal world, 24 hours for the marzipan to dry before you ice. I don't find this a problem, so I tend to stick to it, but I suspect it makes no very great difference.0

Just bought my ready made marzipan an icing in Tesco today.
I will be putting the marzipan on one day and the icing the next day.
i belive you have to leave a day inbetween. The secret to success is making very small, yet constant changes.:)0 -
I just did them one after the other, like I always do - not had any complaints yet!Our Rainbow Twins born 17th April 2016

the reason for leaving a day inbetween is sometimes the oil in the Marzipan will leak out especially just after handling when it gets warm if this happens it will show through the ising leaving a stain on it0

My cousin made my wedding cake but didn't allow time for the marzipan to dry out and the colour did stain the icing.0

This only happens if using royal icing. Ready to roll is fine to use straight away.0 -
I find also if you make your own almond paste ( marzipan ) it's more 'oily' than shop brought so allowing it to dry prevents it from staining the icing.0
