  • A lot of paint brands will have a paint calculator where you select the paint and input the room/wall, window door measurements. eg dulux https://www.dulux.co.uk/calculator/

5 Ltrs is usually plenty for an average size room with 2 coats,10 for a hall stairs and landing

Roughly measure the area of the walls in the room. Don't worry about exactly measuring every window and door, just get somewhere close.

Then look on the back of the tin when you're in the DIY store. That will tell you the coverage. Beware - they assume one thin coat. So allow about twice as much paint as what it says on the tin.
    If it sticks, force it.
If it breaks, well it wasn't working right anyway.

For a standard 12 x 12 room, one window, one door. Allow 5 litres for the walls, 2.5 litres for the ceiling, 1.5 litres of undercoat and 1 litre of gloss/satinwood.

This doesn't allow for fresh plaster which will need a mist coat, nor does it allow for a dark colour that is being painted over with a lighter colour.
