Transferring electric supply to Scottish Power

My contract is due to expire and Scottish Power's January 2016 Fixed is the best tariff for me. This morning I received an email link to enter my opening reading.

I logged in, found the page and entered my reading. Computer said '500 Something is wrong'. Tried a different browser, same result.

I called the number given on the 'Something is wrong' page. A very pleasant Scots lady told me to call a different number. I called the number, entered my account number and was diverted to another Scots lady who told me that an opening reading has to be entered automatically, which she did (hopefully).

Doh! Why can't they set up their business process to match their system capability? What's the point of sending a fancy email link that is going to fail and cause customer frustration?

Hopefully I'll be able to do everything online from now, but not a great first impression.
