Hello MSE peeps!

My wife passed her driving test this weekend, and we have managed to purchase a nice cheap little runner.

2002 Ford Fiesta Freestyle 1.25 Zetec, 5 door hatch.

Lovely little car sourced at <£500, MOT until April, no reason for it not to pass MOT except....

Rear Wiper arm won't work. I have checked fuses and earthing points. Anyone know what the common fault could be or is it multimeter time?

In addition are the rear wipers on the MOT test?

Fanks all,

It won't fail the MOT on that.
Tall, dark & handsome. Well two out of three ain't bad.
  • If you can live without the wiper you could always remove it and replace with a grommet.

It's likely to be a break in the wiring where it passes into the hatch and damaged due to the continual opening and closing of the hatch or the motor's seized. Probably multimeter time. Or live with it.

PLug a test meter or even a spare bulb into the plug that goes to the rear motor and switch the wiper on. If you get a reading on the meter or the bulb lights its the motor.

If not it maybe the switch or wiring.

Checked all the fuses? I get that all the time. Which fusebox/fuses did you check. There is only one fusebox under the bonnet...
No, i have to tell them there is another one, behind the glovebox or in the boot etc depending on the car.

Probably live with it to be fair, if it isn't an MOT fail.

Thanks, aware there are 2x fuseboxes, the rear wiper motor is fuse 12 in the passenger compartment fuse box, I believe.

Multimeter time later probably, although if all else fails and it isn't MOT fail or a quick fix, then it will stay like it.
