Packet sage and onion stuffing - do you have any original ideas for it?

One of my daughter's favourites is stuffed roast onions: Peel onions (one per person if an accompaniment is usually enough). Cut the top off, and any root bits, but leaving the base whole. Gently simmer whole peeled onions in enough milk (or milk/water mix) to cover until very soft. Drain (milk is great for sauces etc. by the way) and when cool enough to handle very carefully scoop out the insides of each onion, trying not to poke through the bottom of the onion. Chop the scooped-out pieces and mix with the stuffing. Put mixture into the onions. They can then be roasted with a bit of butter/oil on, or with bacon/veggie alternative wound round the onion and secured with a stick of rosemary or cocktail stick. They freeze really well before roasting so are very useful as a veggie Christmas dish with a bit of tarting up of the stuffing.
This sounds amazing, definitely going to try it. I usually just eat the onions when I'm making bread sauce. Definite winner, a two in one recipe for me now, as I absolutely love bread sauce. :T0 -
I always sprinkle a little into home made gravy especially for pork and poultry meals. The same goes for casseroles and soups, it adds a little something to the flavour. In the past I have also stuffed marrows with it and then roasted them, delicious as an accompaniment to midweek sausages. It also makes the perfect base for your own 'signature' stuffing - just play about with other ingredients like shredded apple, or throw in a few cranberries. Look at the ingredients on TTD or Finest ranges for ideas of which combinations work well together. But even as a basic everyday stuffing some grated onion before adding water gives it an extra boost and makes it a bit more special.“All shall be well, and all shall be well and all manner of thing shall be well.”0

I have literally just made turkey burgers - turkey mince (yellow sticker), asda's cheap and cheerful packet stuffing, chopped mince, coated in flour.
They smell lovely. I wish they were cooked already:j got married 3rd May 2013 :beer:0 -

I add a bit of stuffing to various bean and veg burgers - it hold them together really well for cooking, gives "body" and saves me an egg.
Loving all the post ideas above x Thank you.0 -
When you put your roast potatoes in to roast coat in oil the just shake over the sage & onion mix gives the potatoes a lovely crunch and the crunchy bits left in the bottom of the pan are yummy

I use it -
1. when making meatloaf, half and half with the breadcrumbs. Absolutely lick smacking delish.
2. Mix with mince in meatballs
3. Add to the leftover hash after Christmas, you know, pulse in the blender everything you have, spuds, meat, veg, gravy and the slightly moistened packet stuffing, plus breadcrumbs. Make into rounds, fry off. Voila! Yum. No waste. Better than turkey curry sometimes!
Add to the mince mix for cottage pie. Makes it nice and firm when serving up, and so tasty.
Savoury bread and butter pudding. Add a sprinkle between the layers. Yum again.
I use these ideas all the time. There are more. If I think of them, I'll be back. X.0
