When you expose things like old floor joists and studs etc, or strip old door linings etc of paint, the wood is dark brown.
but plane/ sand it and its light brown, as is new wood.
why is this? is it the effect of age, or did they treat it in some special way in ye olden days.
cant find anything on google, although it could be my lazy search terms...
any help apprciated thx

Look out of the window, what colour are the trees ?
Well wood comes from trees. So if the tree was brown you get brown wood.Liverpool is one of the wonders of Britain,
What it may grow to in time, I know not what.

That's not why wood is brown, the bark of most trees is brown the bit you can see. The wood of a tree is not normally brown when felled it goes brown when exposed to air and sunlight.0
