Car seat cleaning

Hi all

Today I went on the Christmas visitng rounds and arrived at one person's house and their dog jumped in my brand new car!!! and peed on my passenger seat!!! :(

Now we mopped it up with baby wipes as soon as it happened (closest thing to hand) and then my husband covered the seat in car shampoo and gave it a good scrub! It is now about 7 hours later and it is dry and smells fine.

Now my question is, would you do anything more....steam clean it, get it valeted or just leave it? It seems ok..but I am now not that keen on sitting on it as it is grossing me out a bit!!!

Anyone had any similar experiences? What did you do?

If its grossing you out after cleaning it then replacing the seat is probably the only thing that will fully ease you.

    But thats costly.

If you spend £50 - £100 getting it valeted will it stil bother you?

I would have soaked the seat with a shampoo and then used a vac to dry it our as much as possible. Then stick a heater in the car to make sure it was totally dry.

Wrong time of year to leave any damp in seats and cushions.

Febreeze it and then forget about it.

You might want to make sure the aircon is on for the next few days, you need to make sure it dries out thoroughly.

Dogs and their owners are a complete pain. Had the neighbours one in the car uninvited before now though fortunately it didn't pee though their cat rushed into our basement, was sick and rushed out again; lovely. Not to mention all the cr*p on the pavements. Trouble is often the pet owners treat the whole thing as some huge joke! ugh!

I guess only you can decide what you will feel comfortable with. If you have washed the seat and it doesn't smell, I expect it's fine now; just your mind that is troubling you.
  • It's just a bit of liquid, what you have done is fine :) as long as the stain is out and there's no smell, I'd just make sure it dries out fully.

I never sat in that passenger seat again. :D

Many years ago a young nephew fell asleep and wet himself on the cloth back seat of my car. I soaked up the pee with paper towels, dripped water on and soaked it up again a few times. There was no residual stain or smell.

If you can't see anything and can't smell anything then you can probably stop worrying.

Try asking for a £5 car wash and ask how much extra a one seat only valet at one of the many valeting services that have sprung up. Or diy it again.
A man walked into a car showroom.
He said to the salesman, “My wife would like to talk to you about the Volkswagen Golf in the showroom window.”
Salesman said, “We haven't got a Volkswagen Golf in the showroom window.”
The man replied, “You have now mate".
  • Thanks for all your replies.

I talked it through with my husband and I'm having it Valeted from the Toyota garage where I bought it from a couple of months ago. They're doing me a good deal as I am such a loyal customer lol.

I know I will fell happier once it's been deep cleaned by a professional. Plus my outside is ditched so it saves me a job at the weekend lol!

I am just such a germ phobe lol. I will however sit on the seat once it's been cleaned :rotfl:

  • No germs in urine when it leaves the body :) it can ofc become contamined like any liquid once it's in the air though.

Hopefully the clean will put your mind at rest.

A nice quality piece of stereotyping there!

Sorry to disappoint but my dog has never pooed or peed on anybody's Driver's seat, (or passengers' seat for that matter). I also have this amazing skill of carrying nappy bags with me so should my Dogs ever need to go for a poo on a walk I pick it up, wrap it and throw it in a dog waste bin.

Where I will happily accept that there are far too many dog owner who couldn't care less and leave it laying around please don't tar us all with the same brush.

I don't like trying to get it out of the tread of my shoes any more than you do.
  • I have found a spot carpet cleaner brilliant for ingrained chocolate, spilled coke etc on my cloth carpet seats. Something like :-
