chargeback for online purchase

Hi ,I am tempted to buy a TV from an online company called electrohut . They seem to be OK and offer competitive prices but what if it goes wrong ?
If I buy using my visa debit card do I get any comeback if the item fails to appear or is not as listed ?
The price of the item is £575 .
thank you for reading

I'm not sure about the chargeback, but this is the second result for their name in google:

A quick glance shows lots of people saying they've been scammed. I would avoid.
  • Always use a credit card for something like this -- ALWAYS!!!!!!!!!
  • Chargeback only applies with credit. E.G. if you use an overdraft or credit card.

This is thankfully not the case as far as I know. Any transaction processed by VISA or MasterCard (so not bill payments, direct debits or contactless payments) will be covered by the card scheme rules which include chargeback rights. I think Maestro and other scheme operators have rules, too, but I don't actually know what they are.

If the OP doesn't get the goods, their chargeback right will be the same on debit or credit (although there are differences between VISA and MasterCard).

Credit cards do offer some further protection, though. The Consumer Credit Act 1974 extends the cardholder's rights somewhat.
  • I too bought from Electrohut - avoid this company - they are scammers. I paid for a Samsung 32" TV which should have been delivered over a week ago. They don't answer emails & their address is a "holding" office in London with over 250 other companies. They are bad news and should be struck off Google

Google street view doesn't inspire much confidence. 1,371:eek: companies are registered at this address: http://www.endole.co.uk/company-by-postcode/sw19-2rr
99% it's just a mailing address provided by some 'virtual office' company registered at the same address.

Neither does luck of a email address to contact them.

Chargeback will do the job if the TV isn't delivered. For any other problems I wouldn't rely on it.

An interesting concept! As a search engine, Google undoubtedly makes it easier to find a broad range of web content, but to see them as providing some sort of endorsement or recommendation, in lieu of some basic 'due diligence', seems to be asking for trouble....
