High Mileage

I have found a good deal on a car but it has high milage for a 2012 plate. It has 52,000 miles. We will probably only do 5,000 a year but wondered if buying a car with this much mileage was wise ?

If its been serviced properly then the running its been having, most likely motorway, is the easiest on the car, and the engine will have been fully warm for most of it, perfect.
With your low mileage by the time you've had it a couple of years the mileage will be average.
Do make sure its been serviced though as best you can via service history, check the oil and water before you agree to buy, if the oil level is below minimum or no SH to be found walk away.0 -
Can't see why not, chances are those miles were run up on long constant runs , if the vehicle was an ex taxi , then there will be other wear and tear, but as long as components replaced when required and service schedules kept up to date, then it's a 2yr old car at a 4yr old car price.0

If you only do 5000 a year then the money your saving now will work in your favour when it comes to sell.
It should be cheaper the similar cars with less miles so you pay less. Your only adding 5000 miles a year instead of teh average of 10 or 12,000. In 3 or 5 years your car will be a similar mileage to all the others on the market and worth the same.

It's a fantastic idea, very wise and very money saving.
I love high mileage cars and wouldn't even consider that as high miles except when you look at the age.
If you're bringing the average down then you'll be quids in when you come to sell in a few years time. My car had 110,000 on when I bought it at 3 years old. Been great and as our average is 8k in it the overall average has dropped. It's still a high mileage car but now 8 years old with 148k on the clock.Remember the saying: if it looks too good to be true it almost certainly is.0 -
Is it a diesel. If so then 5000 miles per year could be asking for trouble with DPF's. If it's petrol then sounds like a good buy.0

I've bought cars on 130k and had no issues.
However buying a diesel and doing 5k miles a year is insane. Get a petrol. Diesel's are motorway/commuter cars.0 -
One of the best cars I ever bought was at 54,000 miles @ 2 years old.0

On a Diesel, the DMF wont be far away at 60k depending how its driven.
On a newer car thats a £1500 bill in the waiting.I do Contracts, all day every day.0 -

Really?
On car I've got now DMF was only done at 170k, other cars have not needed DMF in over 150k of useRemember the saying: if it looks too good to be true it almost certainly is.0 -

The DMF on my V40 lasted 115K miles. It cost me £600 for parts five years ago.
DMF on my wife's Saab was on its way out when we bought it. Lasted another 20K to 57K and now it's been replaced, cost me £300 for parts.
DMF prices are coming down, not going up.0
